Lake Elementary School Principal Jeremy Muse, EdD, is a Semifinalist for Louisiana Middle School Principal of the Year. This is the sixth time in seven years that Ascension Public Schools has a principal in the running for the state's top honor.
Ascension Public Schools and EATEL partnered to increase applications for the national free and reduced meals program. In addition to eligibility determinations for school meal programs, these applications are used to determine funding levels for the school district for many state and federal sources.
Prairieville Primary School fifth grade student Reese Geraci is a finalist for 2021 Louisiana Elementary Student of the Year. Geraci is one of 21 students named today by the Louisiana Department of Education as finalists in the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The finalists will participate in a virtual ceremony on April 21, when the winners will be named for each grade level.
During February and March, high school students across Ascension Parish are choosing classes for the 2021-22 school year. In addition to traditional college preparatory courses, Ascension Public Schools offers over 100 career and technical education courses that provide both college-bound and career-focused students real-world learning for real-world success.
Registration for Kindergarten at Ascension Public Schools and applications for Early Childhood seats will begin March 15, 2021. The application process for Early Childhood is to be done fully online, while registration for Kindergarten will include a hybrid of online registration and drive-thru document drop off.
Ascension Public Schools announces the appointments of new school leaders. Tachelle White, Ed.D, is the Principal of Galvez Middle School, Shelley Farmer is the Assistant Principal of Galvez Middle School, Amber Lambert is the Assistant Principal of Central Middle School, Dorothy Thompson is the Assistant Principal of G.W. Carver Primary School, and Shannon Willis is the Assistant Principal of Gonzales Primary School.
Ascension Public Schools is currently accepting applications for its Teach Ascension Academy (TAA), the district's alternative certification program. Applications are due by Feb. 1, 2021.
Ascension Public Schools will hold public forums in March and April about the May 9 bond extension election for school construction projects. The forums are divided by high school feeder systems. Parents and employees from all schools plus the general public are encouraged to attend. The first public forum will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 3 at Donaldsonville High School.
